Kairali Education Society
........ in retrospect.
~ E. Sukumaran, President
The child was born on 26.11.1993. Looking back quarter century is a nostalgic affair. 1990s were those times when basic education was getting commercialized and economically marginalized section of Society were finding it very difficult to give quality education to their wards however bright their children were. Few Keralites who were themselves came up in life by virtue of practically free education, conceived the idea of setting up a small school by their efforts. Shri G. Radha Krishnan Pillai, K.C.S. Kurup, R.G. Nair, D. Gopala Krishna Menon, P. Viswanathan Nair, N.K.G.K. Pillai, V. Prabhakaran, K.G. Nair etc are few among the think tank members of the group, still taking keen interest in Society activities. Eventually it lead to registration of the present Society on 26th November 1993 under Andhra Pradesh (Telangana area) Public Societies Act, Fasli 1350.
To keep the spirit floating, the Society started Kairali Vidya Bhavan a primary school in a rented premises in Ramakrishnapuram locality. Meanwhile 100 members got enrolled and with their contribution purchased a piece of open land and constructed a 4 room school building in Neredmet, the present premises. Out of funds mobilized from a public musical program held in 1997 in Keys High School, construction completed in early 1998 and we formally inaugurated the present school building on 25th May 1998. The school at Ramakrishnapuram was shifted to the new premises from academic year 1998-99 and commenced a fresh from 1st standard. We progressed by adding a class every year and our first batch of SSC wrote their exam in 2008. We are proud that our school has been clocking cent percent result in SSC consistently. Iam happy to mention that having regard to our charitable services, the Society is granted exemption from Income Tax to itself and also for the donations made to the society under section 80G of IT Acts in the year 1998, the privilege, we are continuing to enjoy by virtue of transparent accounting. All through, we have been collecting only notional fee from students. The administration, management and infrastructural development expenses including capital expenses were being mobilized by conducting public entertainment programmes and through donations from members and philanthropists. We added the adjacent two plots of land and also two floors of building progressively as part of infrastructure. In 2002, one of our Philanthropist members Shri H. Gopala Krishnan donated a plot of 535 Sq.Yd. land to the Society for educational development activities.
As stated above, the Society held a series of public programmes, at initial stages almost every year and later every two or three years once. We, with lot of pride look back and feel delighted for having conducted programmes with Celebrities/giants in their field like Smt.K.S.Chithra, Unni Menon, Nagore Babu, Shobhana, G. Venugopal, Usha Balaji etc apart from host of other prominent artists.
The members of the Society and also others have been offering assistance to very economically weaker parents for educating their children by sponsoring their full fees. Every year around 15 to 20 students avail such scholarships. Apart from this, the Society also gives fees concession and scholarships to meritorious and deserving children. Smt.Sathyavati, N. Madhusudhanan and R. Jayakumar have instituted scholarships to students, who passes out SSC exam with merits.
We have been finding that many parents from marginalized section of the society are unable to provide professional education to their wards and there are many school drop-out students. Getting inspiration from Make in India programmes and skill development mission of Government of India, we conceived an idea to extend our service to vocational education and training as we felt, there will be continuous demand for skilled labour in the industrial market. Government schemes provided for reimbursement of training cost subject to verification and satisfaction by the Government of Quality of Training and Placement. This perfectly suited the Society's mission, though very challenging task. Therfore Society decided to take up this onerous responsibility of training and employment of the deserving, in the process of nation-building.
The land donated by our above said member, was decided to be exploited for building infrastructure for training. As soon as the proposal was floated, our veteran member Shri U.M. Shankardas got a donation of Rs.10,00,000/- as a seed fund. The Society formulated donation schemes and mobilized further funds and started the construction of the new vocational building after obtaining necessary sanction from GHMC on 04th April, 2018. The Construction has since completed and building finally inaugurated in August 2019 after formal clearance by GHMC.
I would like to inform you all the very important mile stone toward Digital learning taken by the school by entering into MOU with LEAD Education Modules. The children are taught through digital TV mode,Abstract teaching, group activities and practice test. An important hall mark of this LEAD module is communication skill and N Computing.
Looking to overall factors, we have lots of satisfaction that the Society has been able to contribute though in a small way in the nation-building process by enabling and equipping the marginalized section of the society the benefits of education and technological advancements. We, at Kairali Education Society are always committed to the upliftment of the underprivileged through education in the national interest.
